RCA cameras brought America's historic spaceflight images home to millions. Investments in space technology helped RCA advance in consumer products with the introduction of solid-state color TV models in 1970. The next year brought an RCA picture tube joint venture with Thomson, the roll-out of the XL-100 solid-state chassis line of color TV sets, and the death at age 80 of RCA leader David Sarnoff.
